Blanton House
700 Blanton Avenue, Richmond, Virginia
Welcome to Blanton House, the flagship location for CRC’s visionary model of cancer retreats.
A prototype for future builds, Blanton House is the culmination of an innovative, strategic partnership with Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities and the hard work and generosity of more than a dozen corporate sponsors. With the help of many, we’ve built for cancer survivors not just a community center, but a home.

Our Location
Occupying an entire city block, Blanton House overlooks Richmond’s idyllic Byrd Park, a beautiful swath of nearly 300 acres that are home to lakes, Little League fields, playgrounds, walking paths, and towering trees. Located near an easily accessible bus line in the heart of the city, it’s a short ride from the hospital campuses of our local Medical Partner, Bon Secours Richmond Health System.

a cozy home
Blanton House features a welcoming front porch; inviting, open living and dining rooms; a cozy children’s playroom; and – the center of every home – a fantastic kitchen. In the works are a spa, art studio, café, and community garden

“Because we have so many doctors’ appointments and we’re in the clinical space so often, the idea of a space that was medically neutral was the most attractive. Together, our collective home can be really special.”

Blanton House History
Renowned architect D. Wiley Anderson designed this Colonial Revival mansion in 1920 for a commercial florist, Herbert Brown, and his family. Once surrounded by greenhouses that supplied the owner’s thriving business, the house now commands a view of the sprawling Byrd Park, one of Richmond’s most popular public spaces.
Our Renovation Story
After housing the administrative offices of Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities for over a decade, Blanton House stood ready to be transformed into a welcoming home for our CRC community.
With sponsorship from generous talent across the design industry, Blanton House quickly morphed into a place where patients, caregivers, and providers want to come together and get the care they need.
A wall between the living and dining rooms was removed to create a large, light-filled area that allows flexibility in hosting programs, and the opening was repaired to match the home’s original millwork. A vibrant nook stocked with toys and books welcomes children, while the living room windows look out across the wide front porch and into Byrd Park.
The next phase of renovation will create a relaxing spa, an art studio, a healthy cafe, and a community garden.
